Stay away conspirators under death threat

The leadership of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has been shocked and gripped with intense fear after they received a letter from anonymous sender yesterday which threatened them with death and a detrimental payback towards their families if conspiratorial acts in plotting an imminent stay away continues.

In a yesterday’s statement by secretary general of the (ZCTU), President Peter Mutasa and Secretary-General, Japhet Moyo were warned not to plan for a stay away on 22 July 2019 as this will endanger their lives and their families’.

The statement reveals that it is indicated in the letter as follows:

“…we have have hired mercenaries to deal with you once and for all – unless you stop what you are planning”

J Moyo said this letter’s objective was aimed at disheartening and removing the ZCTU leaders’ enthusiasm from absolute playing of their roles.

“The ZCTU is taking these threats seriously and we are worried that our leaders are not safe.

“However, we believe the threats are part and parcel of efforts to intimidate the ZCTU leaders from discharging their duties”, Moyo said.

It is also depicted in the statement that the ZCTU members are on the verge of informing the police as they are fearfully concerned with the death threat embedded in the letter.

“The letters and the incidents have all the hallmarks of the State Security machinations. The police will be notified of the incident”, Moyo said.

Moyo has today confirmed to M&T Newspaper that he received a threatening letter from anonymous source warning him not to do anything related the purported stay away plotting.

“I received a letter from someone whom I don’t even know, and inside the letter was a treatening message which warned me from planning the purported stay away.

” It was also written that they can also harm my family if I pursue with my duties”, he said.

The ZCTU of the Trade Unions is the primary trade union federation in Zimbabwe.

It’s agenda is to promote, advance and safeguard the economic, social and constitutional liberty of working class by stabilising all legal, political, and good governance framework in Zimbabwe through strengthening its capacity and those of its affiliates that have something to do pertaining to its mission.
